IRD SCAM TIP
Beware of False IRD Calls
Scammers and fraudsters have taken to pose as IRD employees and officers. Never offer your IRD number or other confidential information over the phone no matter how much authority seems to be breathing into your ear.
The best way to verify if a call from the IRD is legitimate is to ask for the name of the caller, their position in the IRD and their extension number. Then say you will call him/her back on the IRD's 0800 number.
Don't take any telephone number offered because that too could be part of the scam.
IRD FOR REAL
IRD Now Has International Eyes
Effective from 1 January 2015, a convention with relevant overseas countries comes into effect. It allows for the tax authorities of signatory countries to swap information about taxpayers and to assist in the collection of outstanding tax. This includes serving documents on offenders living overseas, who have not paid their NZ tax.
Most New Zealand tax paying citizens would applaud these extra powers as disappearing overseas with a home tax debt has always been a regular escape route for kiwis. If they never return, the tax is lost. Now it may be recovered.
SALES AND MARKETING TIP
Want to See the Best Salesmen in Action?
Every Sunday morning on television you'll see some of the best orators and salesmen in action. With no disrespect to what they are promoting, take time out to watch and listen to how convincing and persuasive their message can be.
Most of them are simply the best. What sets them apart? They are brilliant story tellers. They personalise their message, reach out and bring you into the centre of their world.
Now I'm not advocating that you mimic their approach and technique, but we can all learn from their public speaking skills, the pace of their delivery and their ability to make you want to buy into the message.
I've often said that developing a USP (Unique Selling Proposition) is OK, but it is much better to develop a UBP (Unique Buying Proposition) so that your prospect so badly needs your product or service that they convince themselves to make a buying decision rather than you selling. It to them. This leaves the buyer in control (supposedly) and hence more prepared to buy rather than being sold to.
BUSINESS PLANNING STRATEGY
It's Hard to Get Past Instant Gratification Planning
Right now, there seems to be lots of stuff being rocketed into space to explore asteroids, comets and planets. What is astounding is that a launch is years in the planning, costs millions (sometimes billions) and then nothing happens for 5 years or more until the target is reached.
What amazing faith to do something now, and no results will eventuate for years and years.
Could you make business decisions now and have to wait years for an outcome? I think you should. Three years from now is just 36 months, five years is just 60 months. If you picture your company in three years' time, you haven't got long to start making some plans and putting them into place now.
Short term reactive tactics are fine for the here and now, but they cause your business to zig and zag all over the place. Develop longer term strategies and watch how much smoother the journey is.

Why Can Anyone Start a Company and Become a Director – No Questions Asked?
New Zealand is highly rated as being an easy country to do business with. On one measure we are second in the world only just behind Singapore. And according to the World Bank rankings, we are rated number one as The Best Country for Starting a Business in.
Business and profit is the lifeblood of every country that uses tax to look after its citizens. In fact, is it possible to identify any tax that is not directly or indirectly a result of someone, somewhere making a profit?
Being the easiest country in the world to start a business is a great accolade. But at what cost?

We know some things in life are unavoidable, but that doesn't mean we don't do all we can to minimise their effect on our life.
But sometimes a tax liability can hang over us like a sword.
If you have a niggling IRD debt hanging over you, make sure we know about it. There is always a way through - especially if you have a good tax record. E3 has a great record for sorting out tricky tax problems for clients. Try us.
On the other hand, you may be fine with IRD as far as debts go, but do you ever have a nagging feeling your business structures are not getting your tax down to the lowest legal possible rate? This is another area we can help.
The ruthless elimination of superfluous messages.
Example – Ford's advertising launch of the Kuga (a whole new model for Ford) focussed exclusively on an under bumper foot swipe to open the hatch. When the marketing chaps came up with that one, it must have scared the marketing department but they were brave enough to know it could work.
Go on, what's one benefit your business has that you could state in one short sentence – or encapsulate in one picture? If you've got a cracker, send it to me. I'll put it in our next newsletter and over 3000 business owners will read it.
